THE SCIENCE OF OSMOLYTES IN SKINCARE APPLICATIONS
Science of Osmolytes
Betaine and inositol are major osmolytes present in the epidermal layers of the skin.

These osmolytes occur naturally to play an active role in water regulation, and help to optimize skin health. When the skin is dry, keratinocytes respond by increasing production of osmolyte transporters on their cell membrane, which results in increased uptake of osmolytes. This increased uptake restores cell hydration. Skin exposure to UV-A or UV-B radiation triggers similar response from keratinocytes. We have tapped into this hidden power of nature with GENENCARE® OSMS, a range of skin bioactives to protect skin cells from osmotic stress, assist protein folding, and stabilize the native structure of proteins.
